Peace River region voting surges in 2024 Provincial Election

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Ballots from across the province continue to be tallied for the 2024 Provincial General Election, and in the Peace River region, voter turnout rates were higher than they have been in the past two provincial elections. 

In the 2024 provincial election, 57.7 per cent of registered voters in Peace River North cast their ballots, and Peace River South saw a turnout of 57.2 per cent. 

In Peace River North, 14,781 ballots were tallied to elect Conservative candidate Jordan Kealy, who received 74.4 per cent of the vote.

In Peace River South, 10,104 ballots were cast, and Conservative candidate Larry Neufeld was elected as the new MLA with 69.97 per cent of the vote. 

In the 2020 provincial election, voting turnout in Peace River North was only 46 per cent compared to 56.74 per cent for the 2017 provincial election. 

In Peace River South, 41 per cent of voters turned out during the 2020 provincial election, and 49.97 per cent in 2017. 

The election is currently too close to call at the provincial level. The final vote count will begin on October 26th.
