KAMLOOPS, B.C. — BC SPCA Animal Protection Officers have taken a young dog into their care after being dragged through the streets by a vehicle in Merritt. B.C.
The dog is described as a young collie-mix male named ‘Sunny.’
“This is such a sad story. The dog had been tethered to a vehicle,” says BC SPCA senior officer Eileen Drever. “Someone got into the vehicle and drove off, dragging him for about 200 metres.”

“He has abrasions to his front and back paw pads and hocks, and his nails were shredded. He is also underweight with a body score of two out of nine, which is very thin,” Drever continued.
The dog was transported to a vet clinic in Kamloops, where no internal injuries were found. He was prescribed antibiotics and is recovering at the BC SPCA’s Kamloops Animal Centre.
Sunny has since gained two kilograms in weight and is well on the road to recovery.
According to the BC SPCA, Sunny has become a favourite among the vet staff and volunteers.

“Sunny loves spending time outside in the sunshine, playing in the field with staff and volunteers. He is a huge fan of cuddles in his kennel and loves nothing more than hanging out with people,” said Drever.
