Peace River Regional District to invest in wildfire protection
The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) is moving forward with a grant application to complete work on a regional structure protection unit.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) is moving forward with a grant application to complete work on a regional structure protection unit.
During the October 17th PRRD Board of Directors regional board meeting in Fort St. John, the directors voted to approve a grant application of up to $91,000 to the TC Energy Build Strong Grant Program.
The trailer unit, intended to increase wildfire protection resources throughout the Peace River region, has been an ongoing project consisting of four phases starting in March of 2023. A similar unit was purchased in September for the Charlie Lake fire department.
A report to the board of directors details that the trailer is currently ‘in a functional state allowing for structure protection for approximately ten structures.’
Approval of the application of up to $91,000 would ensure the completion of phases three and four.
