FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) board of directors has received an update on a major pipeline project approaching fruition in the Peace River region.

During the October 17th PRRD Committee of the Whole meeting, a delegation of experts from TC Energy presented an update on the Coastal GasLink project, which starts in the Peace River region.

The 670-kilometre pipeline project stretches from Northeastern B.C. to Kitimat and has a capacity of 2.1 billion cubic feet per day, which could increase to 5 billion cubic feet per day in the future.

Team lead Heather Desarmia detailed the clean-up efforts ongoing in the region as summer construction comes to a close. A minimal workforce has been cleaning sites and conducting revegetation efforts, which are expected to be completed in December.

Desarmia explained that public awareness for residents impacted by the pipeline’s presence is ongoing, and more information will be provided to them as the project continues.

Construction on other sections of the pipeline is ongoing outside Northeast B.C., and the project will continue as infrastructure in Kitimat starts construction in 2025.
