FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The daughter of a man stabbed on the job at Site C in August says doctors are projecting “a year or so of hard work” for his recovery.

The man, Leo, sustained severe injuries after being stabbed at Site C on August 24th.

RCMP officers at the time said Leo was transported to hospital while his assailant was taken into police custody without further incident.

Leo’s daughter Olivia Nelson organized a GoFundMe for her father in the days after his initial surgery.

In an update dated September 20th, Nelson says her father had to undergo an additional surgery during his time in treatment in Edmonton but adds that he remains in high spirits.

“We were lucky to have him in Prince George for a short time where it was healing for both him, his children and family,” Nelson’s update reads.

“Now he has been accepted to, and has travelled down to, a great rehabilitation center where they project a year or so of hard work.”

Nelson says Leo isn’t expected to regain full mobility in both legs: only partial mobility in his right leg.

However, she says he’s expressed gratitude that his family can be at his side during his recovery.

To date, Nelson’s fundraising campaign has brought in more than $27,000 to help pay for her family’s travel expenses.
