FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Fort St. John Huskies win streak to start the North West Junior Hockey League (NWJHL)  2024-25 season now stands at five games after a weekend sweep.

On Friday, October 4th, The Pups fell behind early to the Sexsmith Vipers before a second-period display from forward Ashton Underhill.

His hat trick was noteworthy because each goal was on the power play in five minutes. Underhill also assisted on a late goal by MacCoy Wilms in the third period, as the Huskies prevailed by a score of 5-3.

On Saturday, October 5th, the Huskies welcomed rivals the Dawson Creek Kodiaks to the North Peace Arena for their home opener.

Underhill continued his strong play by opening the scoring at just under two and a half minutes into the first period, and another goal by Cortt Callison put the Huskies up 2-0 at the end of 20 minutes.

However, the Kodiaks pulled even from defenceman Joey Levesque’s first two goals of the year, as the score was knotted at two goals apiece two minutes into the final frame.

The Huskies took control from there, scoring three unanswered starting with Tanner McCracken’s third score of the young season.

Underhill added his fifth goal in two games, as the Huskies prevailed by a score of 5-2.

Fort St. John’s perfect record keeps them on top of the NWJHL East/West division standings with eight points, two ahead of the North Peace Navigators.

The Huskies will be at home on Saturday, October 12th, for a tilt against the Grande Prairie Wheat Kings at the North Peace Arena. Puck drop is at 8:00 p.m.
