Prince George Fire Centre lifts bans on category 2 and 3 fire restrictions

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — As of noon on Friday, October 4th, 2024, the Prince George Fire Centre rescinded all its bans on category two and three fires in the Prince George region. 

The restrictions were first put in place back in March this year. 

Category two open fires are described as “material in one pile not exceeding two metres in height and three metres in width and stubble or grass over an area that does not exceed 0.2 hectares.”

Category three fires are described as “material concurrently in three or more piles, each not exceeding two metres in height and three metres in width.” 

The fire centre advises people to prepare for any burnings they may participate in by establishing a fuel break around the fire, always having someone monitor the blaze, and not conducting burnings when venting conditions are ‘poor’ or ‘fair.’ 

People planning to burn a category three fire still need to obtain a burn registration number by calling 1-888-797-1717 or emailing hpr.1800@gov.bc.ca.
