UPDATE: Fire in Fort St. John extinguished

UPDATE: The fire on the corner of 98th Street and 102nd Avenue has been put out as of 12:40 p.m.

FORT ST JOHN, B.C. — UPDATE: A fire reported at an apartment building on the corner of 98th Street and 102nd Avenue on Tuesday, October 1st, 2024 has been put out according to the Fort St. John Fire Department.

Fort St. John RCMP, fire trucks and ambulances were spotted at the scene in the early afternoon.

According to deputy fire chief Matt Troiano, fire crews responded to the fire just after 12 p.m. finding a debris pile in the backyard of a residence.

“We arrived on scene to see it was a debris pile in the backyard of a residence that created a lot of smoke, and our crews were quick to extinguish the fire before it was able to spread into any adjacent structures,” said Troiano.

No injuries are being reported.

Troiano says the fire was extinguished and the firefighters returned to the station by 12:40 p.m.
