FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Writ Day is right around the corner for those interested in voting in the 2024 Provincial General Election.

Writ Day, or the day the election is called, is scheduled for September 21st, and campaigning officially starts across the province on that day. 

To be eligible to vote in the provincial election, individuals must be a Canadian citizen, 18 years of age or older on October 19th, 2024, and a resident of B.C. since April 18th, 2024. Individuals must also not be otherwise disqualified from voting.

Individuals can register to vote in a variety of ways, including online, by mail, and by phone. 

Residents can also register to vote by mail, fax, or email, by filling out and sending in a brief form, or by visiting Elections BC’s office in Victoria or attending a registration drive in their region.

Some of the drives occurring throughout the Peace region include inside the Totem Mall in Fort St. John from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on September 7th, at the Chetwynd And Area Recreation Centre, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on September 13th, and at the Tumbler Ridge Community Centre from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on September 14th.

Registration drives are also scheduled at various times and locations around Prince George from September 7th to 15th. 

Young voters, aged 16 and 17, can also register online as future voters if they are Canadian residents and provincial residents, improving the registration process when they come of age and vote for the first time. 

Advance voting opens on October 10th, and residents wishing to vote by mail have until October 13th to request a vote-by-mail package online or by phone.
