Invenergy Notice of Project Development for the Hourglass Creek Wind Energy Centre in the Peace River Region

Notice of Project Development
PROJECT DEVELOPMENT AND INTENTION TO SUBMIT TO THE BC HYDRO 2024 CALL FOR POWER: HOURGLASS CREEK WIND ENERGY CENTRE – TUMBLER RIDGE AREA
BC Hydro 2024 Call for Power
BC Hydro announced a Call for Power in April 2024 to competitively procure approximately 3,000 GWh/year of affordable clean or renewable energy from new Independent Power Producer’s energy resources. The Call for Power is structured to help ensure British Columbia has sufficient energy to meet future needs. New projects must have a generating capacity between 40 and 200 megawatts (MW).
THE PROJECT
Invenergy develops, builds, owns, and operates renewable energy projects, including utility-scale wind energy. With electricity demands across BC anticipated to grow significantly over the next several years, Invenergy is preparing projects for submission into BC Hydro’s Call for Power in September 2024. The project being proposed is a wind energy facility with the potential to generate up to 200 MW of electricity. It will include approximately 36 turbines, a project substation, and a new transmission line connecting it to the Tumbler Ridge substation.
The project location was picked due to the strong and reliable wind resource in the Peace River Region and the site’s constructability. It is located 21 kilometers northeast of the District of Tumbler Ridge. If the project is selected during the competitive BC Hydro Call for Power process, the facility is estimated to be operational in 2030.
