FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) board of directors voted to send a letter of support to Blueberry River First Nation (BRFN).

During the August 15th regional board meeting, the board of directors reviewed a letter sent by BRFN regarding an ongoing additions-to-reserve application for two pieces of land in Charlie Lake.

This, the letter explains, is a part of BRFN’s Treaty Land Entitlement Settlement with the province and Canada and involves the transfer of BC Crown lands to Canada being turned into a reserve for BRFN.

With a letter of support from the PRRD, the additions-to-reserve will enter its final phase, the transfer and registration of the pieces of land with BRFN.

Once the transition is completed, BRFN will begin a planning process for future land use and development of the areas, which will involve collaboration with the PRRD.

Following a unanimous vote of approval from the board of directors, PRRD staff were directed to send a letter of support for BRFN.
