Peace River Regional District approves Bessborough Landfill budget increase
The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) board of directors have approved another budget increase for the Bessborough Landfill Phase 4A Cell Development project.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) board of directors have approved another budget increase for the Bessborough Landfill Phase 4A Cell Development project.
This phase of the project was originally budgeted at $212,488.90, and following approval from the board, was increased to over $378,000.
This is the third budgetary increase so far for the project, and comes, according to staff, due to unforeseen circumstances regarding quality assurance and an inability to get water levels down for the project.
According to staff, the increase brings the project to the maximum allocated in the 2024 budget.
The project is being completed by Tetra Tech Canada Inc., and the increase of approximately $165,600 would go towards the additional engineering services required for the unexpected design requirements.
After a brief discussion regarding the previous increases to the project’s budget, and assurances from staff that these increases were due to unexpected incidents rather than the project going over budget, the board voted in favor of the request.
