BC Hydro bringing fast charging stations to Fort St. John

BC Hydro’s electric vehicle fast charging network will be expanding two new 180-kilowatt charging stations in Fort St. John.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — BC Hydro will be will be expanding it’s electric vehicle fast charging network with two new 180-kilowatt charging stations in Fort St. John.

The initiative announced on August 15th, is part of the company’s CleanBC climate plan to switch from gas vehicles to clean electricity.

George Heyman, Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy, says the new stations will help people travel more quickly and reliably while using clean energy.

“More electric chargers bring both environmental and economic benefits as we work towards lowering our climate-changing emissions 40% by 2030,” said Heyman.

BC Hydro says there are more than 160,000 electric vehicles in the province and predict between 700,000 and 900,000 more within the next 10 years.

“This new electric vehicle charge site in Fort St. John continues our work with BC Hydro and other partners to make cleaner options more accessible and affordable for all British Columbians,” said Josie Osborne, B.C.’s Minister of Energy.

The stations will be located in the parking lot on 9716 Old Fort Road, and will be able to add 180 kilometres to an electric vehicle in about 10 minutes.
