Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the region.

UPDATE July 25th: The severe thunderstorm warning ended Wednesday evening.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the region.

According to the agency, meteorologists are tracking a storm moving towards the North Peace River area “capable of producing strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain.”

The storm is reportedly located 35 kilometres southwest of Fort St. John, moving north-northwest at a speed of 20 kilometres per hour.

“Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year,” the agency says on its website. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!”

According to Environment Canada’s hourly forecast, the storm risk is set to last until 8:00 p.m. in Fort St. John.
