BC Hydro announces $27,500 investment in FSJ nonprofits through GO Fund

Three Fort St. John nonprofits have received thousands of dollars in funding thanks to BC Hydro.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Three Fort St. John nonprofits have received thousands of dollars in funding thanks to BC Hydro.

The utility has announced the latest beneficiaries for its Generate Opportunities (GO) Fund, administered by the Northern Development Initiative Trust, to support organizations that benefit seniors, children, and other vulnerable groups.

Through the latest funding allocation, $10,000 is being provided to the Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society, to “help provide art therapy to families who have experienced violence.”

Another $10,000 has been allocated for the Child Development Centre Society of Fort St. John and District, which will reportedly go towards “support services and supports for children with autism and their parents and caregivers.”

The Fort St. John and District Palliative Care Society also received $7,500 to support “making hospital beds available to palliative people with life-threatening or altering illness.”

To date, the GO Fund has provided financial support for 100 projects in the Peace region, as part of BC Hydro’s commitment to support the area as it builds the Site C dam.

The utility also announced an additional $100,000 has been invested into the fund, meaning it can now accept more grant applications.

Past beneficiaries include the Wellness Truth and Family Foundation, the North Peace Gymnastics Association, and more.
