UPDATE: One-hectare wildfire ignites on Cecil Lake Road

A wildfire has broken out near Fort St. John.

Update 11:43 a.m. July 23rd: The fire is now out, according to BCWS.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A wildfire has broken out near Fort St. John.

The blaze is located on Cecil Lake Road, north of the city.

It was discovered on Sunday, July 21st, and as of Monday morning, currently sits at one hectare in size.

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) website says the blaze is currently “out of control,” meaning it’s anticipated to spread beyond its current perimeter.

BCWS also says the suspected cause of the fire is human activity.
