A new wildfire has been discovered near the BC-Alberta border.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A new wildfire has been discovered near the BC-Alberta border.

The blaze, discovered at 9:41 a.m. July 22nd, is located six nautical miles north of North Boundary Lake.

As of 1:00 p.m. on the 22nd, the blaze currently sits at 150 hectares in size, and is listed as “out of control” by the BC Wildfire Service.

BCWS also says the suspected cause of the blaze is a lightning strike. No evacuation alerts or orders have been issued as a result of the fire.

BCWS has reportedly issued a “modified” response to the fire, meaning it’s being managed “using a combination of techniques with the goal to minimize costs and damage while maximizing ecological benefits from the fire.”
