FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Fort St. John RCMP responded to a report at 9:41 a.m. on Thursday of a suspicious man in Mathews Park.
Sergeant Dwayne Croll refuted social media claims that the man was not allowed in the park and that he was brought in for questioning, saying the man was unhoused and asked to leave. Â
According to Croll, the man was bound by conditions to not interact with another unhoused individual in the park.
“Due to the fact that these individuals are bound by [those] conditions, he was asked to leave the park without incident,” said Croll.Â
The North Peace Gymnastics Association changed plans for a summer camp field trip to the park set for Thursday, citing “a situation at Mathews Park.”
RCMP officers were unable to confirm if the cancellation had anything to do with the man in question.Â
The RCMP sergeant says these kinds of incidents occur very rarely and are treated differently on a case-by-case basis.Â
