Dawson Creek RCMP use drone and police dogs to arrest men in stolen vehicle case

Two men have been taken into the custody of Dawson Creek RCMP in an incident involving a stolen vehicle, Police Dog Services, and a drone.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – Two men have been taken into the custody of Dawson Creek RCMP in an incident involving a stolen vehicle, Police Dog Services, and a drone. 

The driver, 35-year-old Jacob Dennis, fled to a nearby forest before RCMP arrived on the scene. 

On June 1st, RCMP located a vehicle stolen from Grande Prairie earlier that day and took the passenger, 29-year-old Cole Hansen, into custody.

Dawson Creek RCMP pursued Hansen into the forest with Police Dogs and a Remotely Piloted Aircraft System, arresting the man without incident.

Both men have lengthy criminal records. Hansen’s record included offences of theft, trafficking scheduled substances, and failing to comply with release orders. Dennis’ record includes break and enter, possession of stolen property, firearm offences, fraud, failing to comply with release orders, and more. 

For this most recent encounter with RCMP, Hansen was charged with possession of stolen identification.

Dennis was charged with possession of stolen property, possession of a stolen bank card, operating a vehicle while prohibited, carrying a concealed firearm, and possession of a firearm for a dangerous purpose.

Upon their arrest, RCMP applied to keep both men in custody. Dennis has remained in police custody, and Hansen has been released back into the community.
