Fire-consciousness emphasized for long weekend
The Prince George Fire Centre is urging people to be safe and fire-conscious in their long weekend celebrations.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Prince George Fire Centre is urging people to be safe and fire-conscious in their long weekend celebrations.
“Despite the recent downturn in weather through the southern portion of the Prince George Fire Centre, the BC Wildfire Service is urging the public to exercise caution while enjoying your long weekend activities regardless of where they may take you,” A June 27th statement read in part.
The centre explained that while category 1 open burning, meaning campfires, is permitted in the region, campers should exercise extreme caution over the weekend, especially when heading into the backcountry.
“No matter the conditions in your area, residents are urged to exercise caution and to practice responsible fire use as human-caused wildfires are preventable and divert critical resources away from naturally caused fires,” The centre stated.
In Fort St. John, Canada Day celebrations will not involve fireworks, as per a decision made by the City of Fort St. John Council due to fire bans active in the region.
