FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — May and June have been busy with school groups at the museum. It’s always neat to see students connect with local history such as the animals or vehicles we have on display.
We postponed our yard sale to Saturday June 22 (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.) from last Saturday which was very rainy! While we were glad for the rain, we are happy that this week is looking nice and sunny for both yard sale and the school groups doing scavenger hunts in our outside buildings. This is one of the North Peace Historical Society’s big fundraisers which help them continue to operate the Fort St. John North Peace Museum and continue to offer research, educational programs and events, and preservation services.1-2 p.m. will be fill a bag or small box for $5 sale.
Our Canada Day Scavenger hunt is back along with free admission to the museum 10-4 on July 1. Search for items in our historic buildings or explore the museum (and the travelling exhibition, BC’s Marvellous Mushrooms) for free!
Our pie sale is back at Rotary Ribfest July 12-14. Get a delicious slice of fruit pie (with or without whipped cream) and help the North Peace Historical Society raise funds to preserve and present local history.
Also, on July 13 we will be participating in Doors Open. Come tour the museum for free and try our mushrooms scavenger hunt (as well as seeing the BC’s Marvellous Mushrooms Exhibit below). Check out some of the other local heritage sites with their Doors Open on Saturdays throughout July across the Peace Region. More details to come.
BC’s Marvellous Mushrooms, a travelling exhibition from the Royal BC Museum, has been well received by visitors thus far. Learn more about BC mushrooms and their versality through a cross-section of different species—some familiar, some bizarre, some delicious and some deadly. These mushrooms are interwoven with every part of British Columbia ecosystems. Featuring interpretive graphic panels, 3D- printed mushroom models and foraging equipment, the exhibition facilitates visitors’ understanding of BC mushrooms and their many uses. This exhibition is on display until September 2, 2024.
