Dawson Creek proclaims June 17th as Hope Air Day

The City of Dawson Creek has declared June 17th as Hope Air Day to recognize the organization’s work in reducing barriers that prevent individuals from receiving medical care at distant locations.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — The City of Dawson Creek has declared June 17th as Hope Air Day to recognize the organization’s work in reducing barriers that prevent individuals from receiving medical care at distant locations. 

Hope Air is a charitable organization dedicated to providing access to health care by facilitating free flights for patients living in rural British Columbia. 

Charleigh Rudy, Executive Director of the South Peace Division of Family Practice, accepted the proclamation and thanked council during their June 10th meeting.

“We all live rurally, many of us probably had to travel for healthcare ourselves or had family or friends travel for health care, and certainly can be costly because we often have to go to Prince George or Vancouver for services that are specialized,” said Rudy. 

“This service has been instrumental for our community in providing patients the ability to have their accomadations and flights covered in addition to paying for their significant other or companion.” 

In a Facebook post, the city said that the organization’s impact goes beyond serving patients, families, communities, and the healthcare system as a whole by promoting wellness and reducing the burden of untreated medical conditions.
