Fort St. John community band seeks musicians for Canada Day performance

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Northern Winds Community Band is looking for local musicians to join their annual Canada Day performance. 

Sabrina Brooks, a School District 60 music teacher and member of the band, said anyone is welcome, and that she wants the performance to represent the whole community.

The Canada Day performance will be on the main stage at Centennial Park on July 1st from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Brooks encourages anyone with four years or more experience to join the community band ahead of the performance. 

Some instruments mentioned include flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, tuba, percussion, guitar, violin, cello, contrabass, bassoon, and oboe. 

The band is also looking for vocalists to accompany the musicians. The set list includes songs ranging from System of a Down and Metallica to Toy Story and Shrek.

The band practices on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Anne Roberts Elementary School. Interested musicians can arrive 15 minutes early to get the music or contact Brooks by email or text at 250-793-2862.
