FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A local woman is raising money to support her stepfather’s medical expenses after he fractured his spine in a tragic accident in Mexico.

According to Lynn Ingram’s GoFundMe page, her stepfather Stacy Kraushar suffered a “life-changing accident” in Puerto Vallarta, which left him with “multiple fractures in his spine.”

“Stacy’s journey to recovery has just begun, and he needs your help to continue receiving the best possible care,” said Ingram.

She says Kraushar has undergone several surgeries at a hospital in Puerto Vallarta to stabilize his condition, and Vancouver General Hospital has accepted him as a patient for further assessment and treatment.

“The immediate challenge we face is getting Stacy back to Canada,” Ingram says. “He requires specialized critical care air ambulance transportation to safely transfer him from Puerto Vallarta to Vancouver.”

That’s expected to cost $85,000, and Ingram doesn’t know if the third-party insurance company that’s covered Kraushar’s medical expenses thus far will foot the bill.

“We are reaching out to friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers to help us raise the necessary funds to bring Stacy home,” Ingram said.

“Your generous donation will go directly towards the cost of a critical care air ambulance, additional medical expenses not covered by insurance, and supporting Stacy’s ongoing care and rehabilitation.”

At the time of publication, $9,595 has been donated to Ingram’s GoFundMe campaign, which aims to raise $110,000.
