FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. –  A new exhibit at Peace Gallery North has been opened to the public, highlighting the natural beauty of the Peace Region in print media.

Colours of the Peace – Wild and Subtle opened to the public on May 3rd, featuring art installations created by 17 Federation of Canadian Artists members local to the Peace Region.

Florencia Ormeno, the curator of Peace Gallery North, said the exhibit had an incredible opening night on May 8th.

“We had a lot of people, over 40 people, and we made a lot of sales the opening night, which is very good for the artists,” Ormeno said.

Three art pieces in the exhibit were also awarded during the opening, two of which have sold since the exhibit opened.

“The three pieces that won [awards on opening night] are three different mediums, and they’re all local [artists],” Ormeno said.

Colours of the Peace is Ormeno’s final exhibit as the curator of Peace Gallery North. She will be leaving the position and the province on May 24th.

In an interview in late April, Ormeno called Fort St. John her second home and said that she has cherished every opening at the gallery.

The exhibit will be open to the public at Peace Gallery North in Fort St. John until June 1st, 2024.

Several pieces within the exhibit are still available for purchase, including the second-place winner of the Ovintiv Award of Excellence, Spirit of the Peace by Mimi Zhang-Mackie.

The next exhibit opening at Peace Gallery North is Hate to Hope, an immersive exhibit by the BC’s Office of the Human Rights Commissioner (BCOHRC).
