Workers with Dawson Road Maintenance say Highway 77 near Fort Nelson could close due to an ongoing wildfire.

FORT NELSON, B.C. — Highway 77 near Fort Nelson has closed due to an ongoing wildfire.
According to DriveBC, visibility is currently low across the entire 137.2-kilometre highway length due to smoke from the Patry Creek wildfire.

A social media post from Dawson Road Maintenance, the company responsible for maintaining highways in the North Peace region, says the highway has been closed from the Highway 97 junction to the Northwest Territories border due to the smoke.
The 0.5-hectare wildfire, which is a re-ignited holdover from 2023, is one of two out-of-control fires near Fort Nelson, alongside the 2,000-hectare Nogah Creek wildfire that re-ignited earlier this week.
Those two blazes led to an evacuation alert being issued in the Fort Nelson area Thursday afternoon.
