FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Fencing is being erected on the east side of Fort St. John’s Kin Park as contractors prepare to continue working on upgrades.

According to the City of Fort St. John, construction fencing is going up so workers can begin building the new parking lot and playground equipment in the park.

The bike track and the current playground will stay open throughout the process, but visitors will need to park on the street or on the west side of the park.

“The playground will have a view of the construction for all of those kids who like watching equipment at work,” the city adds in a social media comment.

S. Young Enterprises Ltd. was awarded the tender for the upgrades to the park’s east side at a council meeting in late April.

The total budget for the eastern portion of park upgrades is projected at $4,480,000.

Further comments on social media from the city show one of the next improvements being worked on is the pump track for cyclists, set to start construction “a little later in the summer.”

All upgrades are expected to be completed by the fall of 2024.
