FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A hairdresser in Fort St. John is raising money this week to support an outreach project for battered women in Mexico.

Haylee Gonzalez, a stylist with Tribe Salon Group, is running a bottle drive on April 25th and 26th to raise funds for a salon she’s helping to design and build in the country.

Gonzalez says she also intends to teach hairdressing at the salon, which mainly serves women living at Mujeres Nuevo Comienzo, a shelter for women and children escaping abuse in Baja California.

“My vision for the salon I am designing in Mexico is to give women the opportunity to feel pampered, beautiful, and cared for,” Gonzalez says in a Facebook post. “Something they have never felt before.”

“They will not only receive the services but learn a skill to provide an income for themselves and their children.”

Gonzalez says the structure is framed and measured so far, and money from the bottle drive will go towards creating “a rendered plan to give donors a clear picture of my vision.”

Bottles are being collected at Tribe Salon Group from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the 25th and 26th.

Energeticcity.ca has contacted Tribe requesting an interview with Gonzalez to learn more about the project.
