CHETWYND, B.C. – After two campfires spread and turned into brush fires on the weekend, the Chetwynd Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) is urging residents to follow wildfire regulations.

According to a social media post from the fire department, the first fire started after an abandoned campfire in a vacant lot spread into a nearby wooded area.

The second, meanwhile, was a grass fire that started because of an uncontained campfire.

“This fire was larger,” the post reads, “and impacted adjacent outbuildings on the property and extended into a vacant wooded area.”

According to the CVFD, both blazes were contained with minimal damage.

The department is encouraging residents to make sure they follow the BC Wildfire Service’s guidelines for campfires.
