FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — ABC Recycling in Fort St. John recently installed a donation bin with a 24-hour drop-off facility, directing proceeds to local charities and non-profit organizations.

While the recycling company has long been contributing the monetary value of scrap metal donations to charities, the installation of the 24-hour bin aims to cater to individuals who wish to drop off materials during weekends, holidays, or outside regular working hours.

All of the proceeds from the donation bin go directly to local charities and non-profits.

“The collective generosity of the local business and individuals we serve is a powerful thing, making this entire process possible,” the release states.

“Often, we have customers donate the value of their metal directly to the charity of their choice.”

Alternatively, ABC Recycling also collects material from its yard. In 2023, the company facilitated more than $30,000 in donations to local charities and non-profit organizations and hopes to expand further this year.

Along with supporting local charities and non-profits throughout the region, the initiative also diverts metals from local landfills, helping to reduce and recycle waste in the process.

ABC Recycling accepts all types of metal and metal products, from copper, brass, aluminum and steel to washing machines, dryers, lawnmowers, patio furniture and more.

The donation bin is located in front of the business at 9631 78th Street in Fort St. John.
