FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A new non-profit organization in Fort St. John is seeking financial contributions to get up and running.
The Wellness Truth & Families Foundation is a relatively new non-profit, with Lisa Jewell serving as the executive director.
Jewell is a social worker with years of experience in Fort St. John, previously working as the outreach coordinator with the Women’s Resource Society.
The new organization will be offering support for women and their families who have escaped domestic violence or experienced trauma.
Jewell said there are agencies in town to work with women while in crisis and get them to safety, but aftercare is hard to come by.
Jewell is looking for contributions to begin renting a space and to show that she has the support of her community.
Once she has banking records of contributions, she can also apply for other grants and funding.

Jewell hopes to offer teen and family activity nights, as well as programs focusing on family healing as a unit and medical advocacy.
The medical advocacy program will have trained volunteers attend medical appointments at clients’ request to help provide support, ask questions and take notes.
For more information or to donate to the foundation, Jewell can be reached via her cell at 250-261-9322 or wellnesstruthfamilies@gmail.com.
