According to a March 4th report to council, the building will “be the focal point for year-round indoor community programming and events.”

The four companies, Station One Architects, KMBR Architects Planners Inc., Urban Arts Architecture IV and Arcadis Architects, will be asked to submit a detailed Request For Proposal (RFP) package to complete phase one.

The project’s first phase will include a pre-design plan and a financial estimate for the facility.

The budget estimate is between $6 million and $9 million. The costs of demolishing the current building are also included in the budget.

Council first posted Requests For Qualifications (RFQ) on January 2nd, 2024, and received 12 responses from different companies.

A review committee from council had a hard time narrowing down the considered proposals due to all submissions coming from qualified companies, according to the report.

Council still needs to determine the full scope of the project before accepting the RFPs from the shortlisted companies. Other considerations include deliverables, public engagement expectations, decision-making authority, and the reporting process.

Staff will come back to council with a recommendation to award the work to one of the four companies at a future meeting.
