Emergency Warming Centre activated in Dawson Creek

The City of Dawson Creek activated its Emergency Warming Shelter on Monday due to the cold temperatures hitting the area.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — The City of Dawson Creek activated its Emergency Warming Shelter on Monday due to the cold temperatures hitting the area.

The shelter, located at the Nawican Friendship Centre, will be open from February 26th to March 4th, according to the city.

Temperatures in Dawson Creek are expected to hit a low of -20 C on Monday, with a wind chill of -29 and a risk of frostbite, according to Environment Canada.

The shelter can host up to 30 individuals and can provide them with water, warm drinks, snacks and a warm place to shelter over the next week.

The Nawican Shelter is open 24 hours a day and is located at 1401 102nd Avenue.
