FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Colposcopy services in northeast B.C. are now being offered in Fort St. John, according to Northern Health.
According to BC Cancer, a colposcopy is a procedure that looks at any abnormal areas on the cervix and vagina by using a magnifying tool called a colposcope.
If a patient in the northeast requires a colposcopy, they will be referred to Dr. Adewale Adegbenro, obstetrician and gynecologist, at the Visiting Specialist Clinic at the Fort St. John Hospital.
According to Northern Health, referrals for colposcopy for BC Cancer screening programs in the northeast were previously directed to the Dawson Creek clinic.
Due to the departure of the Dawson Creek specialist, referrals are now being directed to Dr. Adegbenro.
Northern Health says recruitment is underway for a new specialist in Dawson Creek, and are hopeful they will be in place in the coming months.
Questions can be directed to a primary care provider or the Fort St. John Hospital colposcopy clinic at 250-261-7316.
