DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — A hit-and-run in Dawson Creek on Sunday resulted in the vehicle’s owner getting charged with multiple violations under the Motor Vehicle Act.
According to Corporal Madonna Saunderson with the BC RCMP, the victim of the hit-and-run phoned the Dawson Creek RCMP at 12:43 p.m. from 92nd Avenue. She said her vehicle, a Chevrolet Tahoe, was sideswiped by a Jeep Cherokee.
Staff Seargant Rob Hughes with the Dawson Creek RCMP says the woman followed the Jeep. It eventually stopped and both occupants exited the vehicle. Hughes says the passenger ran in one direction and the driver ran in another.
When officers arrived where the Jeep was left and searched the area, they found the passenger, who was arrested for failing to remain at the scene of a collision.
Hughes says the man detained turned out to be the owner of the vehicle, and was heavily intoxicated to the point of needing to be in custody until sober.
For failing to remain at the scene of the accident, failing to exchange particulars and driving without due care, the owner of the vehicle may be fined approximately $1,104. His name cannot be released until charges are approved.
