DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — The Dawson Creek Fire Department extinguished a residential fire on the 227 Road Sunday morning, requiring the help of every firefighter available.
Fire Chief Marcel Capelle says as one engine and four firefighters were headed to the scene, they could see heavy smoke in the distance. As a result, every firefighter on call was brought in, 19 in total, as well as a tender from Pouce Coupe and the RCMP.
When they arrived at the scene, firefighters saw black and brown smoke coming from multiple doors and windows of the home.

Capelle says one woman, who was home alone, was standing outside when police and firefighters arrived.Â
The RCMP assisted the elderly woman, who received no injuries.
Because the fire had occurred outside of town, there were no fire hydrants, so water had to be shuttled in by a large tank.
The fire chief says the fire was stubborn to put out because it was in the house’s attic and on the roof.
