Saturday’s weather created challenges for both skiers and volunteers, but Sunday’s sunny conditions provided the “perfect backdrop” for fast races.
“[This was] highlighted by one of the mass starts with 83 athletes competing simultaneously, showcasing the depth of talent and sportsmanship among the participants,” said the release.
Chief of competitions, John Aalberg, acknowledged the commitment demonstrated by the volunteers who helped run the event.
“This weekend’s event was one of the largest BC Cup events ever at our venue. It’s remarkable to see such dedication from our volunteers, particularly in timing and starts, contributing significantly to the smooth running of the event,” said Aalberg.

According to the Whiskey Jack Nordic Ski Club, volunteer coaches were able to take a team of young skiers to participate in the cup, thanks to the generous donations of several local businesses.
The club’s skill development program coordinator, Christine Kress, says the local skiers represented Fort St. John well by leaving their best on the trails in spite of challenging conditions.
“As a club, we are grateful for the time our volunteer coaches put into organizing this trip as well as attending the races with the skiers to give their support,” said Kress.
