FORT ST. JOHN B.C. — The Kin Park Frostival skating event scheduled for Friday, February 2nd, has been officially cancelled due to the warm weather.

The City of Fort St. John’s recreation department announced the cancellation on Tuesday through Facebook.

The warm weather has caused the skating rink to melt, making it unsafe for skaters, according to Ryan Harvey, communications manager for the city.

“The ice isn’t looking very good right out there right now. There are considerable holes in it, so it’s unsafe,” said Harvey.

The city plans to get the rink functional again by next week if the weather gets cold again.

“We’ll need to look at rebuilding it next week once we know exactly the extent of the damage done,” said Harvey.

The event was initially scheduled for January 27th and was postponed to February 2nd before being cancelled.

The two skating rinks at Kin Park and the other at Mathews Park are currently unavailable.
