Tumbler Ridge resident convicted of sexual assault

Tumbler Ridge resident Terry Joseph Raymond Vandenbosch was convicted of sexual assault and sentenced in a Dawson Creek courtroom on January 9th.

TUMBLER RIDGE, B.C. — Tumbler Ridge resident Terry Joseph Raymond Vandenbosch was convicted of sexual assault and sentenced in a Dawson Creek courtroom on January 9th.

The court file has a publication ban imposed to protect the victim’s identity.

According to Daniel McLaughlin with the BC Prosecution Service, Vandenbosch was convicted of the offence on September 1st, 2023.

The offence occurred around the 13th of December in 2021.

Vandenbosch was sentenced on January 9th to a 365-day conditional sentence, ordered to submit a DNA sample and pay a $100 victim surcharge, which goes towards helping victims of a crime.

A conditional sentence is a sentence to be served within the community.

According to Dawson Creek Court Services, Vandenbosch was given several conditions to follow during his sentence, including a requirement to report to a supervisor.

He also must have no contact with the victim, and if he sees the victim in public, he must leave the area.

Vandenbosch is on house arrest for the first 90 days of his sentence. There are exceptions to house arrest, such as medical care or employment, but his supervisor must still grant permission.

After the 90 days, he has a curfew from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

In addition to the house arrest, Vandenbosch is not allowed to drink or take any drugs for the entirety of his conditional sentence.
