FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Northern BC Volleyball Club (NBCVC) hosted its IceBreaker Tournament earlier this month, where three of the club’s girls teams earned gold medals.

NBCVC’s under-13 “black”, under-15, and under-16 girls teams earned gold in their brackets at the IceBreaker, which, according to a release from the club, was the largest tournament it has hosted to date.

Held on January 13th and 14th, the IceBreaker Tournament hosted 41 teams travelling to Fort St. John from Dawson Creek, Grande Prairie, Fairview, and Peace River. The teams competed in 111 games across seven age categories.

The girls weren’t the only teams from the NBCVC to find success at the tournament. The under-14/15 boys earned silver medals in their final game against the South Peace Volleyball Club’s boys team after defeating them in a second set with a score of 30-28.

Despite having to relocate Sunday’s scheduled games to Anne Roberts Young Elementary and Bert Bowes Middle School due to boiler issues at Margaret Ma Murray Community School, the NBCVC says the tournament was a “smashing success.”

According to a release, this year’s IceBreaker marks the first since 2020 and was a success thanks to “countless hours” of volunteer efforts and community sponsors.
