FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Fort St. John council recently penned letters of support for immigrant-related programs.
Most of the programs aim to help with settlement, teaching, and employment opportunities in the city.
The programs also aid in forming connections with groups such as the Fort St. John and District Chamber of Commerce, local businesses, and other immigrant societies that assist with settling and developing in the community.
The letters of support were for the Fort St. John Literacy Society’s Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada Program, School District 60 Settlement Workers in Schools Program, and S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Fort St. John’s Immigrant Settlement and Integration Program.
The city also penned a letter of support to the North East Immigration Services Society for its application to the federal government’s Settlement Program and Resettlement Assistance Program. The grant would give the society five years of funding for a project to deliver support and services for new immigrants settling in Fort St. John.
All of the organizations are seeking funding from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
The support letters were written in December and made public in the agenda for the January 8th council meeting.
