Fort St. John RCMP investigating deadly car chase

A Fort St. John RCMP investigation is underway after a man was found dead Monday evening, which is believed to be linked to an alleged car chase involving shots being fired.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A Fort St. John RCMP investigation is underway after a man was found dead Monday evening, which is believed to be linked to an alleged car chase involving shots being fired.

Police say reports of the incident started coming in around 7:38 p.m. on January 8th, and witnesses say the chase involved three vehicles travelling from 100th Avenue onto 90th Street.

According to the RCMP, at least two homes in the area were struck by gunfire.

The area where the car chase occurred was close to the Sikh temple. (Jordan Prentice, Energeticcity.ca)

A deceased male believed to have been part of the incident was located in a vehicle near 97th Avenue and 90th Street.

The local RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance in the investigation. 

Anyone with footage of the incident through doorbell, home security or dashboard cameras is asked to contact the detachment.

People living in the area are also asked to examine their homes for any damage that may have been caused due to the incident and report it to the RCMP.

According to residents in the area, 90th Street from 100th Avenue to 99th Avenue was blocked off since Monday night at about 8 p.m. for at least eight hours.

As of 10:40 a.m. on January 9th, a police presence was still in the area of 90th Street.
