FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The City of Fort St. John is looking to prepare the ice surfaces at Mathews Park and Kin Park now that the weather is getting colder.

“As we prepare the Kin Park Leisure Ice Surface and Boarded Hockey Rink, we kindly request your cooperation. If you notice that the ice surface’s lights are off, please refrain from using the ice,” said the city in a Facebook post.

When the lights are off, the rinks are being built or maintained, so the rinks are closed. When the lights are on, the rinks are ready for use.

In Mathew’s Park, the city asks residents to watch for signage as they prepare the ice surface.

The city also shared a few tips for using the ice surfaces:

  • Use the outdoor rinks at your own risk;
  • Helmets and gloves are recommended;
  • Limit outside time during periods of extreme cold;
  • Report problems by calling 3-1-1 or filling out the report a problem form on the city’s website or the Waste Wise app.
