Lindeberg, who works at a school in the city, was recently affected when she was outside with some of the kids when they heard gunfire only two blocks away.

“We were all under the impression that if you stay away from the drug situation, you wouldn’t be threatened, but we’re seeing that it’s starting to threaten citizens,” Lindeberg said.

The petition calls upon the Government of Canada to repeal soft-on-crime and catch-and-release policies, as well as end the decriminalization of hard drugs.

The petition wants to stop the “tax-funded handout of hard drugs” and instead invest money into treatment and recovery programs to “bring our loved ones home drug-free.”

The petition opened for signatures on December 20th, 2023 and will be closed on March 19th, 2024.

At the time of writing, the petition has 107 signatures.
