FORT ST. JOHN, B.C — The Northeast BC under-18 Trackers’ seventh annual Christmas game collected approximately 800 pounds of non-perishable food items for the Women’s Resource Society (WRS).

Students from Dr. Kearney Middle School, Bert Bowes Middle School, North Peace Secondary School and the Energetic Learning Campus were given the day off school to head to the North Peace Arena and watch the game on December 15th. The general public was invited to attend as well.

Admission to the game was one non-perishable food item for the society.

According to a post on the Trackers’ Facebook page, the game had over 1,400 “screaming fans” who watched as the under-18 team defeated the Whitecourt Wolverines 3-2 in overtime.

Event organizer Kristi Dietz, whose son plays for the Trackers, says seeing so much community support for the Christmas game was great.

“It’s really exciting for the team to have all the schools come and everybody cheering for them,” said Dietz.

“And for us to be able to make a donation like this to the Women’s Resource Society — it’s like the cherry on top for the Christmas season.”

The event follows last year’s successful Christmas game, which collected several hundred pounds of food for the local Salvation Army food bank.
