During the night between October 17th and 18th, the trailer was stolen from Wildland Fire headquarters in Whitehorse after someone cut the chain on a gate and used a vehicle to take the trailer and six barrels of gasoline.

The Fort St. John RCMP detachment was advised of the theft because it was believed the trailer would make its way south of the compound via the Alaska Highway.
