FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The executive director of the Women’s Resource Society recently decided to present the local Shoppers Drug Mart with a very unique gift for raising approximately $124,875 for the non-profit in recent months.

Amanda Trotter presented a brick in a picture frame, which reads, “Proudly Building our Community. Thank you for your invaluable support” to the store manager Tammy Kopanyas and associate owner Irvin Tang on Saturday.

Trotter says the brick is symbolic, thanking the business for their help building the community through helping the Women’s Resource Society’s clients.

Shopper’s vice president of operations in B.C., Li Hardy, and the district manager, Dale Bobby, also attended the presentation.

The Women’s Health Giving Shelter Fund collected by the local Shoppers Drug Mart from September 20th to October 6th donated $24,875 to the Women’s Resource Society. This was the highest amount raised among all the 1,300 stores across Canada.

A variety of activities were also organized over the past few months by the local Shoppers and Jamie Parsons, a Women’s Resource Society board member and Shoppers employee.

The Shoppers Foundation for Women’s Health also donated $100,000.

“We aim to use the funding to support low-income women’s health physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually,” Trotter said.

Currently, the society has its Cash Calendar Fundraiser going on, where each day in January, a name will be drawn to win various cash prizes, with a grand prize of $1,000.
