Local steer wrestler places second in third round at National Finals Rodeo in Vegas

Fort St. John’s Stephen Culling took second place in the third round of steer wrestling at the 2023 National Finals Rodeo.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Fort St. John’s Stephen Culling took second place in the third round of steer wrestling at the 2023 National Finals Rodeo (NFR), which is currently underway in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Culling split his second-place win with California’s Stan Branco. Both cowboys finished the third round with a time of 4.3 seconds, earning $21,296.

The local steer wrestler didn’t rank in his first round and placed sixth in his second round, finishing with a time of 4.4 seconds and earning $2,476.

With seven rounds to go at the NFR, Culling’s total earnings for the year currently sits at $137,798. 

Last month, Culling competed in the Canadian Finals Rodeo (CFR), where he finished with an aggregate rank of seventh place and earned $13,644.85 in CFR round earnings.
