AFDE donates $40,000 to five local charities

AFDE and employee unions partnered to support five Fort St. John charities with a total of $40,000 this Christmas season.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — AFDE and employee unions partnered to support five Fort St. John charities with a total of $40,000 this Christmas season.

The employees are primarily represented by three unions: LiUNA! Local 1611, IUOE Local 115, and CMAW Local 1998.

ADFE and the unions decided to donate to the following charities: the Fort St. John Firefighters Charitable Society, the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation, the Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society, the North Peace Ride for the Disabled and the Fort St. John Seniors Association.

According to communications manager Troy Van Bostelen, AFDE has been in Fort St. John since April 2018, working on the generating station and spillways project at Site C.

“With a peak of 3,000 employees in August — direct and subcontract — we have always endeavoured to ensure our impact on this community of 22,500 residents has been a positive one,” Van Bostelen said.
