FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Tickets are now on sale for the Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society’s (WRS) Cash Calendar Fundraiser.

According to WRS secretary of the board Amber Lindley, the fundraiser is a win-win for both the society and those who participate.

“For the month of December — we sell tickets. In January, somebody’s name gets drawn every day,” said Lindley.

“You could win once, depending on how many tickets you buy. If you buy three tickets, you could potentially win three separate days.”

There are 500 tickets available for purchase at $40 each, with a cash prize to be won for each day and a grand prize of $1,000.

“The big grand prize will be drawn on the 25th,” said Lindley.

If all 500 tickets are sold, the WRS will fundraise approximately $15,000 after paying out prize money for the cash calendar.

Tickets can be purchased by scanning the QR code below or clicking here.

Lindley says there is also a link on the fundraiser page that provides the option to donate extra to the WRS.

“That’s a bonus for us because fundraisers are so hard [for us] right now,” said Lindley.

“We lack volunteers, we lack all the things, so this is relatively simple, right?”

Lindley says the number of clients accessing resources at the WRS has doubled this year.

“With the economy, with the price of groceries and everything — it’s a vicious cycle,” said Lindley.

“We have more clients than normal, and we have fewer people being able to give what they used to be able to give. So, both sides of the fence are kind of in a bind.”

Lindley says the local businesses and organizations that run their own fundraisers for the WRS are a huge help.

“It’s so wonderful to see the community kick in and do all of these things [for the WRS],” said Lindley.

“Those [community fundraisers] get a reach that we don’t necessarily have ourselves. We never focus on the negative at the WRS, we just kind of roll with what we have.”

Fort St. John community members who would like to help out the Women’s Resource Society can stop by the organization’s office at 9908 96th Avenue for more information and to fill out a volunteer form.
